What is the percentage in return per 1,000 share ?

Hi Mike, it is very straight forward. It gave 39 cents for FY2010. So, if your entry price is RM5, you will getting RM390 for last year and the dividend yield is around RM390 / RM5000 = 7%. But for FY2011, it has alread given out 20cents so far and based on its dividend policy of 70% and assume another 12cents EPS for Q4, we should expect to get (11.93 + 19.70 + 12.96 + 12) * 0.70 = 38 cents.

Happy New Year 2012 to you also. You can refer to the dividend table above. Normally it gave 4 times dividend every year which are Feb, May, Aug & Nov. But for FY2011, it did not declare any dividend for month Aug. But since it has dividend policy 70% and has been paying dividend very consistenly, hope it will give us suprise for the coming Feb's dividend.

- RM23million expanding Pharmaniaga manufacturing capacity in Kedah (Sungai Petani)

- remaining third will go to the information system.

A few points to explain:
- The 2011 EPS is 59.04cents (on weighted average number of shares ex-bonus).

- 70% is NOT on total net earnings attributable to Shareholders.

BOUS Dividend Policy stated:
-- Under the dividend policy, the Company intends to pay a minimum of 70% of the
audited consolidated profit after taxation attributable to shareholders for each
financial year AFTER appropriate adjustments for the profit retained by Associated
Companies and any unrealised income from fair value adjustments that are non-cash
in nature. ... In recommending dividends, it is the Board’s policy to allow shareholders to participate directly in the Company’s profits whilst taking into account the retention of adequate reserves for future growth.

Within 2011 there are:
- A dividend-in-specie of 1 Pharmaniaga: 57.5 BOUS shares (distributed total 16,042,412 Pharmaniaga shares)
- Unrealised retained earnings RM 236.2 million,...

Boustead to sell Sumatra plantation, focus on Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Boustead Holdings Bhd's plan to dispose of its Sumatra plantation will see it focusing on increasing the yield of its plantations in Malaysia, said its deputy chairman and group managing director Tan Sri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin.

Lodin said the disposal of the Sumatra plantation would help improve the yield of the company's plantations in Malaysia.

"The Sumatra plantation has been dragging down our plantation yield a bit as it is not really as productive as our plantation in Malaysia.

"We're very happy with the progress of our plantation activities in Malaysia, but we believe we can do more to unlock its value," he said in an interview.

Lodin said Boustead expects to finalise the sale of its oil palm plantation in Sumatra at a price of about RM120 million by this month or April.

"We have made announcement to Bursa Malaysia in January this year on our intention to sell the plantation. With the disposal, we'll be focusing on our plantation activities in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak," Lodin added.

According to him, Boustead would have about 84,000ha of oil palm plantations in Malaysia, equally spread in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak after the disposal of its plantation in Sumatra.

To unlock the value of its oil palm plantations, it will replant old trees by using materials supplied by the company's research and development unit.

This method will enable the company to get better yield and quality crops as well as consistency.

Lodin said Boustead will also be implementing high density planting, where more trees will be planted in the existing areas to increase yield.

"We have about 130 trees per hectare. Now, we want to increase that to about 150 trees or so. We are using better agronomic practices and fertilisers."

Boustead is also in the midst of improving its harvesting system by replacing manual workers with motorised knives.

Lodin noted that most of Boustead's activities were quite in line with those of the government-owned areas and it was aiming to be ahead of others in terms of productivity.

With such efforts in place, Lodin sees strong performance from the company's plantation division for the current financial year.

"We expect a similar or better profit contribution from the plantation division if the price of crude palm oil (CPO) remains at the current level of around RM3,200 per tonne. The disposal of the Sumatra plantation will not have any impact on the profits of the plantation division," he said.

The plantation division contributed about 40 per cent to the company's profit for its financial year ended December 31 2011.

Lodin expects the price of CPO to hover in the range of RM3,300 per tonne this year. Bernama
